Chicken protest inside restaurant

Environmental protestors dressed as giant chickens chained themselves to chairs in a McDonald's fast food restaurant in Southampton.

Half a dozen Greenpeace activists entered the West Quay Road restaurant on Thursday morning to protest at the company's policies in South America.

The organisation said it had also fly-posted other restaurants across the city overnight on Wednesday.

Hampshire Police said they were called to oversee the protest.

They confirmed half a dozen protesters took part.

The protest was one of several at McDonald's outlets across the country.
