Storm causes floods and landslide

Flooding in Aldershot Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had its busiest night of the year so far after torrential rain caused flash floods on the Surrey border.

More than 200 flood-related calls were received and the service sent out 90 fire engines to clear water from homes and businesses in the Aldershot area.

Several A-roads, including the A323 at Ash, were impassable on Monday morning.

Trains in the Aldershot area were disrupted by a landslide between Brookwood and Ash Vale in Surrey.

South West Trains said it will take several days to remove the mud and ensure the line is safe to use.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said they had been inundated with calls about flooding between 1800 BST and midnight on Sunday.

About 500 reports of flooding were also made across the border to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and more than 50 officers were called to the Chobham, Woking, Camberley, Egham and Chertsey areas.
