A man has been arrested as part of an inquiry into an allegation of serious sexual assault on two women at a hotel.
Police arrested the 26-year-old from London after two women said they were attacked at Portsmouth's Ibis Hotel.
Police had interviewed three Portsmouth footballers as part of an inquiry but said the arrested man "was not connected" to the premiership club.
Det Insp Adam Price said: "We have no plans to speak to any Portsmouth Football Club players again."
"We are very grateful for the assistance from the club"
An investigation was launched on Saturday after an allegation was made by the two women in their early 20s.
Two rooms at the hotel were sealed off for forensic examination on Sunday, in connection with the investigation.
Portsmouth Football Club earlier confirmed three players spoke to police and gave witness statements.
"We are very grateful for the assistance from the club. We will now be questioning the man we have arrested," added Det Insp Adam Price.
