Second failure in Antarctic quest

Colin Yeates, 47, was rescued from his 22ft craft Charlie Rossiter after it repeatedly capsized in heavy seas off the Falkland Islands.

Mr Yeates, from Chandlers Ford, Hants, began his bid on Thursday but activated his emergency beacon on Saturday after hitting "very heavy seas".

His first attempt ended in disaster on 4 January after just 30 hours at sea.

Years of planning

Mr Yeates said his craft capsized five times and some of his equipment was lost.

A patrol boat from the Falklands took him off his craft and efforts were being made to recover the vessel.

Mr Yeates has been planning the Antarctic Circumpolar Expedition for four years.

His twin-cabin craft was crammed with 200kg of freeze-dried food to provide him with the 6,000 calories per day he needed.
