Police station in grenade scare

A police station had to be evacuated after a council worker rushed in with a hand grenade he had found in a nearby garden.

The station on Hesters Way, Cheltenham, was cleared on Wednesday, after finding the device at a council house he was working in.

Army bomb disposal officers were called in, a police spokeswoman said.

The grenade proved to be already disarmed and staff were only out of the building for 10 minutes, she added.
