Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall bought a second hand toy truck for £3 during a visit to a charity shop - telling staff "everyone loves a bargain".
The duchess snapped up the toy for her granddaughters during a visit to the Emmaus charity shop in Nailsworth.
The royal is patron of the Emmaus charity which helps homeless people.
The Highgrove home of her husband, the Prince of Wales, is just 20 minutes away from the shop. Earlier he visited a hospice in nearby Minchinhampton.
"It's good she supports what we are doing"
Camilla told shop volunteer Sam Amatt, 62, that she was a hoarder and never threw anything away even though people told her to do so.
She told another worker that she would like to return to the store another day to have a better look around.
"It's good she supports what we are doing. She told me 'everyone loves a bargain', said Rosemary Cowell, 65.
The Duchess' private secretary confirmed the gift was for one or both of her granddaughters, adding: "It might be kept at home for them to play with when they come."
