Youth counselling gets funding

Young people in the Cotswolds with problems from bullying to self-harm are being offered a counselling service.

Cotswold Counselling has been awarded £35,9666 to extend their services to include young people aged 11-21.

The money will pay for a co-ordinator, to train and supervise counsellors, who then assesses the young person before referring them to the right counsellor.

The service has 13 volunteers specially trained to counsel young people and 50 volunteer counsellors in total.

Margaret Morgans, from Cotswold Counselling, said: "We hope to enable young people to deal more successfully with problems in their lives, such as depression, low self-esteem and family problems, and prevent them getting into trouble.

"Our skilled counsellors are helping to give them the courage and confidence to move forward."

Cotswold Counselling is a registered charity and voluntary agency providing affordable counselling for people of all ages.

The funding has been awarded by the Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) Prevention Fund.
