Fines tackle litter and dog mess

On-the-spot fines of £75 are being introduced to tackle people who drop litter or allow their dogs to foul in public places in the Cotswolds.

Cotswolds District Council in Gloucestershire approved the measures which come into force on 1 December.

"Offenders who fail to pay up may face prosecution, which could lead to a fine of up to £1,000, said a spokesman.

Councillor Lynden Stowe said "working towards a cleaner, greener Cotswolds" was their "number one priority".
