City market celebrates birthday

Traders at Gloucester's indoor market are celebrating 40 years of being part of the Mall Eastgate Centre.

The market is now included in major refurbishment plans for the centre, by its new owners, the Mall Corporation.

Traders fought off proposals to close the market when it was pronounced unviable in 2005.

A council spokesman said: "This is a market city. We congratulate them on their anniversary and look forward to another 40 years of trading."
