A multi-million pound regeneration plan for the centre of Cheltenham has been approved in principle by councillors.
Proposals for the Civic Pride initiative include pedestrianising Boots corner, closing Royal Well and moving the municipal offices.
A delivery organisation will be set up in the coming months to fine-tune the plans and set them in motion.
A total of 28 councillors voted in favour of the scheme; three were against and six abstained.
Councillor John Morris said: "It's a very big decision that the council has made, huge in fact, probably one of the biggest decisions they've made in the past 40 years."
