Cash stolen in security van raid

Midlands Today

A security guard was attacked and a quantity of bank notes stolen during a raid outside a bank in Tewkesbury.

Two men attacked the Group 4 security guard outside the Halifax Bank in the High Street on Monday evening.

A BBC Midlands Today television crew were in the area shortly before the robbery and got footage of the security van in the background of their shot.

Detectives hope this may jog the memory of potential witnesses to the incident which happened at 1835 BST.

The offenders, who were wearing black balaclavas, left the scene in a silver Ford Focus heading towards Bredon Road.

The car was found abandoned in Mitton Way a short while later.

It is not believed any weapons were used during the robbery.
