Hundreds caught in drink campaign

More than 220 motorists were arrested on suspicion of drink driving during June as part of a summer crackdown by Avon and Somerset Police.

A force spokesman said 1,577 drivers were tested and, of the 223 arrests, 62 were under the age of 21.

Supt Andy Pullan added: "The campaign is to remind motorists of the lethal combination of drink and driving."

During 2007 three people were killed and 72 seriously injured in drink- related accidents in the force area.
