Tourist delivers foal in forest

Foal

An Australian racehorse breeder helped to deliver a miniature Shetland pony's foal when she was visiting a tourist attraction in Gloucestershire.

Neroli Jones, from New South Wales, noticed the foal's mother, Tara, was in distress during her visit to Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean.

Ms Jones delivered three-year-old Tara's colt assisted by tea shop manageress, Freda Pritchard.

A vet arrived shortly after the birth and gave the foal the all clear.

Ms Pritchard said: "It was a surprise to everybody. I mean I'm the tea shop manageress so I knew nothing.

"I just got in, hands on and helped with this horse breeder and it turned out fine.

"I was so emotional I cried all day after. It was so emotional it was wonderful. An experience I've never had before."

The owners of Puzzlewood have now launched a competition to name the colt.
