Alpacas killed in canine attack

An alpaca was killed in a dog attack while another was so badly injured it had to be destroyed, police in Gloucester have said.

The incident happened on Monday afternoon in a Stroud field.

Pc Sian Garland said: "This was a very frenzied attack on timid and gentle livestock who have a strong sense of family.

"The two animals were a mother and daughter. The daughter was killed first while the mother stood guard."

He added: "She was subsequently attacked and later needed to be destroyed."

It is believed that the dog responsible would have been left heavily blood-stained as a result of the attack and police have appealed for witnesses.
