Support for ex-military personnel

A retired army officer has set up a support programme to help personnel leaving the military.

Neville Barton, from Naunton in Gloucestershire, formerly served with the Tank Regiment.

He said those who had seen live action in Afghanistan or Iraq faced an even bigger adjustment to civilian life and many turned to alcohol to cope.

Mr Barton has set up Remount, a four-day course offering careers advice and emotion support.

It is based at the Brathay Hall activity centre near Ambleside in the Lake District.

Remount is the name given to Army horses returning to duty after injury or active service.
