Controversial artist Damien Hirst has upset neighbours with a scheme to construct a "factory-style" studio on their doorstep.
He already has permission for a huge art gallery, workshop and centre of excellence on the site of an industrial complex in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
But he also wants an "abattoir rail" and "fish preparation area".
Locals who fear the building may turn into a slaughterhouse have launched a petition to oppose the plan.
'Dead animals'
The petition calls on Stroud District Council to reject the scheme. Signs have been placed by the entrance claiming people's health could be at risk.
Kim Trinder, who lives opposite the land in Dudbridge Road, said: "It's disgusting. I don't want a slaughterhouse and dead animals here. He kills them and then wants to put them in a showroom. Who would do that?"
Mr Hirst, who spent £3m on historic Toddington Manor in nearby Tewkesbury two years ago, has already been given the go-ahead to build on the land.
A decision on his request to change the layout is likely to made next month. Mr Hirst was unavailable for comment.
