A woman from Essex has helped a charity create a garden filled with plants used in conventional and herbal cancer treatments.

Jill Foxley from Chrishall, near Royston, worked with Macmillan Cancer Support to design the garden.

The aim is to highlight common plants used in cancer-treating medicine and complementary therapies as well as to provide a "haven" for patients.

The garden is showing at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

It has won a RHS Gold Medal for the small gardens category.

Ms Foxley said plants like poppies, foxglove and birch, all of which are used to make cancer drugs, are in the garden.

Mint, coffee and thyme which are said to have healing properties, are also featured in the garden.
