iPod girl died in road accident

A 14-year-old girl listening to an iPod was killed by a motorist when she crossed a road, an inquest in Essex has been told.

Jordan Bell, of Colchester, died on 21 March. Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded a verdict of accidental death.

The inquest, in Chelmsford, Essex, was told the schoolgirl's iPod was found in the road near her home after the crash.

Pc Charles Harris said Mark Batten was driving his VW Golf GTi "slightly lower than 40mph" where the limit was 30mph.

Mr Batten, 28, of Colchester, will appear before magistrates later this month after being reported for careless driving and driving with excess speed in a residential street, the inquest was told.
