Woman knocked unconscious in raid

A woman in her 60s was attacked by robbers who broke into an Essex post office and stole the contents of a safe and shop till.

The woman was inside the post office in The Street, Roxwell, when the robbers forced their way through a rear door and confronted her on Monday.

She was hit and lost consciousness and the robbers emptied the till and safe.

The woman's husband found her inside the shop after the robbers had fled. Police said she was not seriously hurt.

The robbery happened while the post office was closed between 1330 and 1400 GMT.

Essex Police have appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in Roxwell at about the time it happened to contact them.
