Man is charged after road death

A man from Essex has been charged with causing death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol.

David Smith, of Canvey Island, died in Southend Hospital, shortly after the Ford Fiesta he was driving was involved in a collision with a Audi A3 in May.

The driver of the Audi, who is now 29, was arrested in June.

The man, from Southend, has been charged with causing death by careless driving and will appear before Southend Magistrates on 28 October.

The accident happened in Canvey Way in Canvey Island.
