Man who died at sub-station named

A power worker who died in an explosion and fire at an electricity sub-station in Essex has been named.

John Higgins, 59, died from the effects of burns and inhalation of toxic gasses at the EDF sub station in Bishop Hall Lane, Chelmsford, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile 1,300 customers in the town were still without power of Friday evening because of the fire damage.

The disruption is likely to continue into the weekend, an EDF Energy spokesman has said.
