The RAF's new Typhoon aircraft is one of the stars at Southend's 21st annual air show.
Thousands of people are expected to be in the Essex seaside resort over the weekend to watch the two-day event.
Andrew Lewis of Southend Borough Council, the air show organiser, said: "We're disappointed the Red Arrows can't attend due to other commitments.
"But we're looking forward to welcoming them back in 2007. The RAF is still fully supporting our show this year."
A number of RAF flying displays are featured this year including its full range of fast jets such as the Typhoon.
There will be hovering displays by Harrier pilots and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will make an appearance.
