Victim of flat arson attack dies

Arson in Harlow flats A 24-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a fire which swept through a block of flats on Wednesday has died.

Kerry Youngs, 24, who lived in Sherwood House in Harlow, Essex, died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Friday.

Police believe the fire was the result of arson and are treating her death as unlawful killing.

Kevin Chappel, 27, who also lived in the flats, is being treated in a specialist burns unit where he remains in a critical condition.

Camera help

Police said they lived in separate flats but may have been in the same flat when the fire started.

Detectives say forensic tests have revealed the presence of an accelerant in an unoccupied flat in the building.

Three police officers were among the 10 casualties taken to hospital and 30 people had to leave their homes.

Ch Supt Peter Coltman said security cameras in local shops may help the investigation.

"There are lots of shops round there that have got camera systems.

"We'll be looking to search through them to see if there are any clues as to who might have been in the area."
