Three deaths prompt heroin alert

Police believe a dangerous batch of heroin may have caused the deaths of three men and a rise in the number of overdoses in Dorset.

A 30-year-old died after collapsing at his parent's home in Wimborne, on Friday, while a 44-year-old was found dead at his Weymouth home on Thursday.

A third man, aged 26, was found collapsed at a building site in Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Police are warning heroin users about the potential danger.

'Unusual after-effects'

Det Insp Jim Beashel, of Dorset Police, said: "Although toxicology tests have yet to confirm this, we believe all three deaths may be as a result of the same batch of heroin being taken.

"While I would never condone heroin use, I'd like to warn all users about this current situation - I advise them to make sure that they are not alone if they take the drug.

"I'd also like to advise friends and acquaintances of those who use the drug to look out for any different or unusual after-effect that taking the drug may have.

"If in any doubt whatsoever to immediately seek medical advice."

Officers have also received reports of four overdose incidents in the last 10 days that are believed to be related, three in Weymouth and one in Bridport.
