Ice warning after road accidents

Icy bay at Sandbanks

Police have warned drivers to take extra care on icy roads after a number of accidents across Dorset.

A car spun off the road near Bournemouth International Airport, and hit a telegraph pole at about 0633 GMT. The driver was unhurt.

A doctor was trapped in his vehicle when it skidded and went into a field on the B3157 at Chickerell on Monday.

Another car stopped to help but this was then hit by a third vehicle. Two drivers suffered minor injuries.

A driver had a lucky escape when her car overturned in Matchams Lane, Hurn, Christchurch, on Monday night.

She managed to climb out of the vehicle and a passing motorist came to her aid.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "We urge motorists to take care on the roads, drive proportionally for the conditions.

"We also urge drivers to leave far more space to the vehicle in front."

He added the incidents demonstrated just how icy roads became at night and in the morning.
