Ambulance overturns after crash

The overturned ambulance (by Darren Crain)

An investigation has begun after a Dorset ambulance overturned on its way to an emergency call out.

The vehicle had left its Christchurch base just after 1300 BST when it was in collision with a car at the Hoburne roundabout in Highcliffe.

The ambulance was not carrying a patient and the three crew members and the 69-year-old man driving the Ford Focus car were unhurt.

The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when they crashed.

The ambulance, a yellow Mercedes Sprinter van registered to the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust, rolled over on its side.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the collision or who saw either vehicle being driven prior to the collision.
