An aquatic business in Dorset has resorted to microchipping its Koi carp fish after a recent robbery.
Greenmann Aquatics, in Three Legged Cross, recently had 10 of the prized fish, which can be worth thousands of pounds, stolen in an overnight raid.
Owner Lucie Mann says simply taking photographs is unreliable as their stock can change colour as they age.
So she has turned to microchipping technology to prevent thieves getting their hands on the Koi carp.
Each fish is placed into a pool of mild anaesthetic before the chip is inserted.
Ms Mann said: "The fish is completely unaware of the microchip, the only thing they notice is the anaesthetic and this wears off quickly.
"This is a better way than taking photos as fish patterns and skin colour alters as they get older."
