Naval warship visits Cornish town

HMS Monmouth

The Plymouth-based Royal Navy warship HMS Monmouth is spending the weekend in Cornwall.

The Type 23 frigate, which is currently undergoing operational sea training in preparation for its next deployment, has moored up in Fowey.

Visitors will be able to tour the ship on Sunday between 1100 BST and 1600 BST to get an insight into life on board.

A gig race between HMS Monmouth and Fowey Gig Club will also take place, along with a challenge cricket match.

In May the crew of the frigate were awarded the Royal Navy Intelligence Trophy for their contribution to maritime security and intelligence collection during their 2007 deployment.
