Prayers for double shooting pair

Prayers have been said at a Dartmoor church service in memory of two retained firefighters found dead with gunshot wounds to the head.

The bodies of Andrew Pawlowski, 52, and an unnamed 42-year-old woman were discovered in the garden of a bungalow in Dousland on Thursday.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Local vicar the Revd Nick Shutt said the church wanted to offer support to the community.

Special prayers were said in the open air earlier at St Paul's church in Yelverton for "all those caught up in the tragedy".

Mr Shutt said: "There's been a great sense of sadness in the community as a result of the loss of life, a great sense of shock.

"I've been meeting people in the street, receiving phone calls, e-mails. All sorts of people want to express their sadness. This is a beautiful, tranquil place on the edge of Dartmoor, we haven't had anything like this before."

After the shootings at Leat Cottage in Dousland detectives found a number of weapons, including a Smith and Wesson Magnum pistol, and a spent bullet round.

Another woman who was nearby at the time is being treated as a witness.
