New Year's Eve festivities staged

Communities across Devon have toasted the arrival of the New Year in style with a series of celebrations.

Despite below freezing temperatures predicted in areas, the chilly weather was not expected to deter revellers.

Barnstaple organised a party with singers and bands which concluded with a firework display over the river.

Thousands of people in fancy dress were also expected to party in the streets of Bideford before heading to the Quay for the annual countdown to midnight.

Street fancy dress parties were also taking place in various other towns including Dartmouth, Exmouth, Dawlish and Brixham.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust put on an extra 20 crews in anticipation of extra call outs.
