A 31-year-old fisherman has died after an accident unloading his catch.

Brixham Coastguard said the man was operating a capstan on the quayside at Salcombe, Devon, when the accident happened at about 1330 GMT.

He was part of the crew of the locally-registered fishing vessel Emma Jane, which was landing crab at the quayside.

Emergency services, including the Devon Air Ambulance, were called to the scene, but the man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead.

The coroner has been informed of the incident and Devon and Cornwall Police said it would be assisting a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive and the Marine Accident Investigation Board.
