Van driver dies in road accident

A motorist has died in a road accident on the A30 in Devon in the early hours of Sunday.

It happened at about 0320 GMT near Monkton. A white Citroen Berlingo van crossed to the opposite side of the road before crashing into a tree.

Officers said the driver was declared dead at the scene and there did not appear to be any other vehicles involved.

The road, which had been shut in both directions, has now reopened.

Police have appealed for anyone with any information about the accident to come forward.
