Son sat on robber at post office

An axe-wielding robber was thwarted at a Cornwall post office after the postmistress's son disarmed him and sat on him until police arrived.

Six foot-tall Gary Henry, 44, heard his mother's screams when the robber threatened her at Tideford Post Office.

Mr Henry, who was in the flat above the post office and stores, rushed downstairs and confronted the man. His mother Jacqueline, 70, was unharmed.

A man has been arrested and another is being sought by police.

'Well chuffed'

Gary's brother Simon told BBC News that his mother, who turned 70 on Monday, was "shocked but ok".

He said: "I'm well chuffed with Gary.

"But I think anyone would have done the same. He was going to protect his mum."

Police are searching the area for a second man.
