Weather fails to halt fireworks

British Firework Championship: Pic Matt Don

Organisers of the British Fireworks Championships have gone ahead with the second night of competition, despite the forecast of rain and gales.

Thousands of spectators gather at vantage points all around Plymouth Sound for the annual event.

Six of the country's top fireworks companies compete against each other, with 10-minute displays.

The overall winner will be announced by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth after the evening's final three displays.

Fireworx Scotland from Inverurie in Aberdeenshire is competing against Phoenix Fireworks from Wrotham in Kent and Pendragon Fireworks from Cwmbran in Wales.

Dragon Fireworks from Ottershaw in Surry, Skyburst The Firework Company from Bedminster in Bristol and Star Fireworks from Bracknell in Berkshire competed on Tuesday.

It is the 12th year the championship has been held in Plymouth.
