Hospital's major facelift plans

Detailed plans of a Plymouth hospital's multi-million pound rebuilding programme have gone on public display.

The work at Derriford hospital will include a new main entrance to the west of the hospital and a 600 space multi-storey carpark and transport hub.

The hospital said it was committed to improving patients' experience on arrival at the site.

Long-term plans include building a children's hospital, refurbishing wards and modernising operating theatres.

Improving facilities

There will also be a new centre for outpatients appointments and planned care.

Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust has drafted in a company called Wharfside Regeneration to carry out the development project, known as the Vanguard Estates Programme.

Architects hope that phase one of the work, moving the hospital entrance to the west, will free up space for the other building projects and make it easier for the public to access.

Lesley Drake, Director of Planning at the hospital trust, said: "We know that there are problems relating to the existing main entrance area ... and site congestion.

"We are committed to improving the patient's experience on arrival at the hospital; including car parking, drop-off, entrance, facilities and wayfinding."

Planning applications for the new main entrance to the hospital and the multi-storey car park have been submitted to Plymouth City Council.

The public are being invited to look at the plans and give their views on the proposals.
