Seagulls 'targeted with BB gun'

A man has been arrested after seagulls were shot at in a Devon city centre.

Police closed off part of Exeter near Sidwell Street after reports of a man shooting at seagulls at about 1900 BST.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said a man was throwing pieces of bread to "lure" the gulls in, then attempting to shoot them with a BB gun.

A 21-year-old local man was arrested for affray and the area was reopened after about 30 minutes. Police said no seagulls were killed.
