Events celebrate NHS anniversary

Nurse taking patient's blood pressure

Hospitals in Devon are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS).

The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter is hosting an open day with guided tours for visitors to see behind the scenes and meet frontline staff.

Doctors and nurses will also be offering free health checks to people at the Drake Circus shopping centre in Plymouth.

The aim is to show that Devon is at the forefront of specialist treatment.

The checks available for shoppers in Plymouth include body mass index (BMI) testing and blood pressure checks.
