Lottery luck for bride and groom

Hannah and Martin Adamson

A bride and groom have celebrated a £1.75m lottery win less than a week after exchanging vows.

Royal Navy weapons engineer Martin Adamson, 29, and 22-year-old student teacher Hannah, could not afford a honeymoon when they married last week.

But a change of numbers to include their wedding date means the couple from Plymouth, Devon, are planning a honeymoon to Hawaii and Las Vegas.

The numbers 4, 14, 18, 24, 32 and 40 produced a £1,777,059 jackpot share.

The couple, who are expecting their first baby in November, had thought they would have to move into Royal Navy married quarters in Plymouth.

But after their numbers came up on television on Saturday night, they can now buy a family home of their own.

Martin Adamson said: "Winning the lottery has been the perfect end to a dream week. We got married, we're looking forward to the birth of our first child, and now we can buy a house and have a honeymoon too."

Martin has been playing the lottery with the same numbers since it started 13 years ago and only changed them after his wedding.

"I changed the number three to the number four because we got married on the fourth ... I am not really a soppy person like that, I'm not really superstitious and it just seems really bizarre for me to do something like that."

His new wife Hannah said they were not planning to give up their jobs: "I've just started my first year teaching and I love it and I don't think any amount of money can replace that."
