Firefighters tackle college blaze

Edgehill College fire

A boarding school has been badly damaged in a fire.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at Edgehill College in Bideford, Devon, just before midnight.

More than 70 firefighters from across the county tackled the blaze which damaged the roof and first floor of a four-storey building used for lessons.

No-one was injured. The cause of the fire is not known, but investigators said there was no reason to suggest any criminal involvement.

Day pupils have been told to attend for lessons as normal. The independent college has more than 350 day and boarding pupils.

Another part of the college was damaged by a fire two years ago.
