Youth held after suspicious fire

Salcombe, Devon

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with a suspicious fire at a Devon hotel.

The Marine Hotel in Cliff Road, Salcombe, was evacuated in the early hours after a fire in the staff quarters spread on to the roof.

Firefighters brought the flames under control but guests and nearby residents had to be moved to safety when a gas leak was discovered.

The leak has been sealed and guests and residents have returned.

A police spokesman said the teenager was being held at Torquay Police Station.
