A school team from Devon has been crowned champions in racing model cars at the world finals in Kuala Lumpur.
Team Pulse, from Devonport High School for Boys in Plymouth, won the "F1 in Schools" title ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The races were open to schoolchildren, aged 11 to 18, using computer design and more than seven million pupils entered worldwide.
All the miniature cars are made from balsa and powered by carbon dioxide.
John Ware, 16, Samuel Wood, 15, Andrew Lees, 16, and Thomas Simpson, 17, fought off competition from 24 teams from 15 countries.
All the teams had to design their own cars using computer software to set guidelines in the same way as F1 cars are designed.
Team Pulse's miniature Formula One car recorded the fastest time of the world championships, a run of 1.064 seconds.
The four students also clinched victory in the knockout challenge, to claim the Bernie Ecclestone World Championship Trophy and motor sport engineering scholarships at City University in London.
"We are still in shock," said the team's graphic designer Thomas Simpson.
"It took two years to develop the car so I'm really pleased that all those hours of work paid off. To have won the fastest car award is just icing on the cake."
As world champions, Team Pulse attended the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang and rubbed shoulders with the likes of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Renault's Fernando Alonso.
