Caution for false rape allegation

A woman has been cautioned after police in Devon concluded an allegation of rape was false.

An investigation was launched after the woman told police she was attacked in Portford Lane, South Brent, in May.

Officers said that after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service the woman was cautioned for wasting police time.

A police spokesperson said: "We seek to reassure the public... that there is not an offender at large."
