Fishing port's funding confirmed

Brixham The Regional Development Agency (RDA) has confirmed it will provide £8m of funding towards the regeneration of a fishing port in Devon.

The cash is for the redevelopment of Brixham and is aimed at protecting the historic town's fishing industry.

The RDA agreed in January to invest in the project which will transform the fish market and create new employment nearby Oxen Cove.

But the money could not be signed off until detailed plans were finalised.

The scheme will also see new homes and the improvement of tourism and leisure facilities.

£2m will come from the European Union's Objective Two scheme.

Construction work will begin in the autumn.
