Naturist zone decision is delayed

Naturist A decision on whether a Devon beach should be declared a naturist zone has been deferred until June to allow for more feedback from the public.

Petitor beach in Torquay has been used by nudists for about 25 years and Torbay Council is considering whether to give it an official status.

The council hopes it will end anti-social behaviour that has arisen with youths throwing stones at people.

Mayor Nick Bye said some residents were concerned about parking in the area.

If approved, special signs will be erected warning members of the public to expect to see people without clothes on.

Devon and Cornwall Police are supporting the council's plan.

Council spokesman Peter Aunger said it was also a matter of providing choice for all holidaymakers.

The only other beach in Devon with official naturist status is in Budleigh Salterton.
