Lost Dartmoor couple are rescued

A couple who were lost overnight on Dartmoor in severe weather conditions have been found safe.

The 32-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman called police on their mobile phone at midday on Friday to say they did not know where they were.

They were picked up near Princetown by an RNAS Culdrose helicopter shortly before dawn.

Police said although they had a tent, the couple were cold and wet when found and were taken to hospital for checks.

A spokesman said they had called for help after realising "they had absolutely no idea where they were".

A search by the Dartmoor Rescue Group had to be suspended at midnight due to the worsening weather conditions.

The couple, who were believed to be from outside Devon, were taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
