A Devon post office is hoping to secure its future by providing a new internet shopping service.
With the recent announcement of plans to shut 2,500 post offices many are fighting for survival.
But Dittisham Post Office is turning to the web to offer a service where locals and holidaymakers can order everything from groceries to newspapers.
Owner Brigitte Tardy said the shopping would then be delivered to homes throughout the village.
'Crucial part'
The website is being sponsored by local estate agency Marchand Petit and Peter Gardner, manager of the nearby Dartmouth office of the agency, said they were constantly thinking of ways to make sure the post office stays in business.
"Post offices these days are fighting for survival and battling against closure, yet they are a crucial part of village life," said Mr Gardner.
"The more people who make use of this excellent village shop, the longer it will be able to continue to trade."
The website will be fully operational by January and those logging on will be able to choose from a wide range of produce including local cheeses, meats, seafood and fruit and vegetables.
