Tree crash woman dies in hospital

A woman has died following a road accident in Devon in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the accident on the A386 near Torrington. A man and woman were cut from the wreckage of a car which had hit a tree.

The woman was taken to the North Devon District Hospital, but later died from her injuries. The male driver was treated for facial injuries.

The A386 to Bideford is closed while police investigate the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which is thought to have happened at about 0400 GMT.

Witnesses have been asked to contact police.
