Help needed to name new ring road

Inner ring road

Derby City Council has asked for suggestions from members of the public for the name of the new inner ring road which is under construction.

The new road is being built in two sections, Osmaston Road to Burton Road and Burton Road to Stafford Street. Each section needs a name.

The first part of the £36.2m inner ring road system is due to open next year.

Ideas for names put forward by members of the public will be shortlisted and put to a vote.

Councillor Lucy Care, cabinet member for planning and transport, said: "It isn't often that we build such prominent roads as these, so it's important to have names that people will want to use.

"The names will also need to stand the test of time. We'd like people to let us have their ideas, and we'll then ask the public to vote on a shortlist to find the final two names."

The closing date for suggestions is 28 August.
