Man accused of stabbing officer

A 29-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after an off-duty policeman was stabbed while trying to break up a fight in Derbyshire.

The detective sergeant suffered several knife wounds to the chest after intervening in the fight on Church Street in Dronfield on Thursday.

The officer is in stable condition in a Chesterfield hospital.

The Dronfield man will appear at Chesterfield Magistrates Court on Saturday, police said.
