Man, 38, dies after hit-and-run

A 38-year-old man has died after being hit by a vehicle which failed to stop on a Derbyshire road.

Police were called to Heanor Road in Ilkeston late on Saturday night where they discovered the man.

Officers said the local man was leaning over and putting something in his car when he was struck by the vehicle.

He was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham but was pronounced dead just after midnight. Police have urged witnesses to come forward.

Heanor Road remains closed while investigations are carried out but is due to reopen shortly.
